The 2014 Sydney Writers’ Festival kicked off in Shakespearean fashion with a Tudor-styled opening party. Guests enjoyed a feast fit for royalty with a hearty carvery, plentiful cheese spread, and fine wine.
The decorated streetscape on the Walsh Bay pier was buzzing with Australia’s literary, media and entertainment glitterati. The guest list including award-winning producers Emile and Caroline Sherman, actor Steve Bisley, the ABC’s Paul Barry, Richard Glover, Michaela Kalowski, and Annabel Crabb, Triple J’s Kyran Wheatley and Tom Tilley, and writers Debra Oswald and Andrew Solomon, who gave the opening speech at this year’s Festival.
Guests mingled and enjoyed the festivities as this year’s ‘thinking season’ was officially launched. The night was complemented by jazz band, The Swinging Gypsies, which had some guests tearing up the dance floor.
